WHAT IS GREEN CLEANING? Green cleaning means the use of
those products and services that have a lesser or reduced impact on
human health and the environment when compared with competing
products or services that serve the same purpose.

GREEN CLEANING CHEMICALS JCS uses general purpose,
washroom, glass, and carpet cleaning products that meet Green Seal's
Standard for Industrial and Institutional Cleaners (GS-37). These
products clean effectively and help reduce pollution and waste. JCS
employees are professionally trained to use chemicals in a manner
that minimizes waste and maximizes cleaning efficiency.
JCS employees properly apply disinfectants in restrooms and make
sure these chemicals have proper dwell time to thoroughly remove
soil and kill dangerous bacteria. All disinfectants used by JCS are
EPA registered.
GREEN CLEANING PRODUCTS AND
EQUIPMENT
Micro-fiber Dusting Cloths and Flat
Mops
JCS uses micro-fiber dusting cloths and flat mops in its
cleaning operations. Micro-fiber dusting cloths and flat mops
out-perform traditional dusting and mopping materials and can often
remove soils without the need for chemical compounds. Microfiber
material used in mops and dust cloths have microscopic fiber "hooks"
that act as claws, gathering up and retaining dust and dirt. This
material is very effective for cleaning because the fibers
thoroughly capture dirt rather than simply moving it around.
Cleaning with microfiber products is environmentally friendly
because chemical use can be minimized. Microfiber products are
extremely soft and do not scratch sensitive surfaces. Test results
show microfiber can reduce bacteria levels by 96%. Micro-fiber
cleaning cloths and flat-mop pads can be washed and reused up to 500
times, thereby reducing environmental impact.
HEPA
Vacuums The U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency estimates that indoor air can be two to five times worse than
the air quality outside, and most Americans spend up to 90% of their
time indoors. Conventional commercial vacuums are an indoor air
quality nightmare as they return about 40% of the dirt they pick up
to the indoor air. JCS uses environmentally responsible
multi-filtration backpack vacuuming with HEPA filters. HEPA is an
acronym for “high efficiency particulate air” filters that are
manufactured, tested and certified to meet Institute of
Environmental Sciences and Technology (IEST) construction,
performance and certification standards as currently published in
IEST RP-CC001.3. HEPA filters improve indoor air quality by removing
99.7% of germs and allergens (down to 0.3 microns). In comparison, a
human hair is about 60-75 microns in diameter. Particles less than
35 microns can't be seen with the naked eye. Pollen is in the 10-100
micron range, with dust at .5-5 microns. Particles under 5 microns
can penetrate deep into the lungs.
Multi-filtration
backpack vacuuming with HEPA has proven extremely effective in
controlling dust mites and dust mite feces, allergens directly
responsible for workplace asthma. Routine use of high performance
vacuums ensures a healthier indoor air quality, fewer sick days,
higher morale and more productive employees.
Paper Products JCS
offers recycled paper products, such as tissue and paper towels.
These products meet EPA's Comprehensive Procurement Guidelines and
Green Seal's Standards for Tissue (GS-1) and Towels (GS-9) for
recycled content in janitorial paper products bleached without the
use of harmful chlorine or its derivatives.
